Wildwood Commissioner Joe Elliott Receives Third Home Rule Hero Award

Wildwood Commissioner Joe Elliott has been recognized by the Florida League of Cities (FLC) with a 2026 Home Rule Hero Award for his advocacy efforts during the Florida Legislature’s 2026 session. It is the third consecutive year Elliott has received the award.

According to FLC, Home Rule Hero Award recipients are selected after each legislative session based on timely responses to the organization’s legislative alerts and proactive communication with league staff about interactions with legislators.

“I am honored to be recognized and driven by a desire to serve my community,” Elliott said. “As Floridians, we have long prided ourselves on being a ‘home rule state.’ Local governments best understand and respond to the unique needs of their own. I feel more strongly than ever that we need to respect and protect that fundamental principle every chance we get. In the words of Abraham Lincoln, ‘Of the people, by the people, and for the people!’”

Founded in 1922, FLC’s mission is to serve the needs of Florida’s cities and promote local self-government. The organization supports local deliberations and decisions to protect and enhance Florida’s communities and provides members with tailored advocacy tools and training programs designed specifically for municipal officials.
