Wildwood to Begin Pavement Rehabilitation Work July 20

2026 Pavement Rehabilitation Map

City of Wildwood officials are advising motorists of a pavement rehabilitation project scheduled to begin in the downtown-central area on Monday, July 20, 2026.

Designed to strengthen existing roadway structure, improve ride quality, and preserve older transportation infrastructure, the project includes portions of the following streets:

  • Alabama Street
  • County Road 213
  • Hence Road
  • Lion Street
  • Lynum Street
  • North Old Wire Road
  • Oak Terrace
  • South Old Wire Road

City leaders consider the project a strategic investment that will benefit both existing and future generations. Compared to preservation treatments, pavement rehabilitation work is more intensive and expensive, with costs multiplying as conditions deteriorate.

“Wildwood has been blessed in recent years with the resources to maintain newer streets in excellent condition, but that wasn’t always the case,” said City Manager Jason McHugh. “Road projects are among the first on the chopping block when finances are tight, ultimately affecting a community’s quality of life in the long term.”

The city commission unanimously approved the $1.2 million project at its May 11, 2026, meeting.

"By rehabilitating these roadways now, we improve safety and provide better travel conditions for residents and visitors," said Public Works Director Jeremy Hockenbury.

Construction activities are expected to occur in phases as crews progress between project locations, with temporary lane closures, intermittent traffic delays, and short-term access adjustments possible. Motorists and residents are encouraged to use caution, follow posted traffic control devices, and allow additional time when traveling through work zones.

Advance notice message boards have been placed in project areas. Residents in affected neighborhoods will receive additional information as work approaches. First responders and residents will have access to properties at all times.
